چکیده

On one side of the urea-secreting cells of the kidney there is blood and on the other side there is urine. The rate of urea excretion is the rate at which these cells transfer urea from blood to urine. Under these circumstances it seems probable that changes in the concentration of urea in the ,blood will have an effect on the rate of urea excretion. If the concentration of urea in the blood were the only factor governing the rate of excretion, it would be possible to obtain a direct measure of its effect by determinations of the rate at different levels of blood concentration. But we have already shown’ that the rate may vary when the blood concentration remains constant,, and that there may be considerable differences in the rate, even when the concentration of urea in the urine as well as in the blood is constant. It is therefore certain that other factors besides the urea concentration of the fluids on either side of the kidney cells exercise a determining influence on the rate of excretion. And unless these other factors can be kept constant, any observed rate of excretion may be higher or lower than that which would have resulted had the blood concentration been the only operative factor. We have not succeeded in framing experimental conditions under which we could be sure that this necessary constancy was attained. This of course was t,o be expected, since some factors which seem likely to influence the rate of work of the kidney

tions a constant (1). If now these conditions are all complied with, but in addition some new factor is introduced, the effect on the rate of urea excretion can be measured by the deviation of the ratio from its constant value. Most of the experiments given in this paper were carried out on the two subjects, Add. and Dru., whose ratios under standard conditions are given in Paper V of this seri...

Effect of Dietary Crude Protein Level on UT-B Expression and Nitrogen Efficiency in Growing Baluchi Male Lambs Fed Low or High Concentrate Diets

An experiment was carried out to evaluate how interactions between forage to concentrate ratio and dietary crude protein level may alter nitrogen efficiency and UT-B expression in growing Baluchi male lambs. Four Baluchi male lambs [30 ± 2 kg BW] were used in a 4 × 4 latin square design with 28-d periods and a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments. The treatments fed forage: concent...

Urea Tests of Renal Efficiency. I. by I. M. Rabinowitch

The urea tests of renal efficiency commonly mentioned in the literature include (a) simple estimation of blood urea concentration, (b) determination of urine urea concentration following ingestion of urea, and (c) observations on the relationship between blood and urine urea concentrations. From a comparative study of these three methods, the general conclusion reached in this hospital (1) was ...

The Rate of Urea Excretion. Iv. the Effect of Changes in the Volume of Urine on the Rate of Urea Excretion

Since the concentration of urea in the blood influences the rate at which urea passes through the urea-secreting cells of the kidney, it seems likely that the concentration of urea in the urine in contact with the internal surfaces of these cells should also have an effect. A high concentration would tend to delay, and a low concentration to facilitate the discharge of urea from the cells, at l...

Effects of Methanolic Extract of Oxystelma esculentum on Diuresis and Urinary Electrolytes Excretion in Rats

The diuretic activity of methanol extract of Oxystelma esculentum aerial parts (MEOE) was studied in male Wister albino rats at 5h and 24h interval. The animals were divided into 5 groups: control, urea, furosemide and 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg MEOE. The extract was administered intraperitoneally (i.p) pretreated and all animals were saline MEOE. The urine volume (in mL) and electrolytes excretio...
